The Mk II Ford Escort is a cheap, basic, agile little car and a favourite amongst rally drivers. Ken Block even has his own version.
The McRae Motorsport Escort Mk 2 was built by DJM Motorsport for Colin McRae. It differed from the standard specification in having independent rear suspension compared to the conventional live rear axle. Most of the original metalwork has gone, instead replaced with carbon-fibre body panels and a spaceframe chassis.
“The Ford Escort Mk II won the World Rally Driver's and Constructors Championship in 1979. A favourite with all rally drivers, this model was restored and upgraded by Colin McRae, with extensive engine and chassis modifications.” — Car Viewer description
