Developed by Williams Grand Prix Engineering, the MG Metro 6R4 is powered by a mid-mounted bespoke 3-litre V6 engine with twin overhead camshafts and four valves per cylinder, designed by David Wood. The four-wheel-drive was permanently engaged, and drove separate propshafts to the front and rear differentials. The rear differential was mounted on the side of the engine sump with one driveshaft running through the sump to the nearside rear wheel.
The MG Metro 6R4 competed in the Lombard RAC rally in November 1985, driven by works driver Tony Pond, finished a highly respectable third place, behind two Lancia Delta S4s.

DiRT Rally 2.0[]
“Based on the MG Metro road car, the MG Metro 6R4 made its international debut at the 1985 Lombard RAC Rally. The new car was developed by Williams Grand Prix Engineering, with its naturally aspirated, rear mounted engine making this car unique among its competitors. Plagued by reliability issues, the car showed flashes of potential.”
