In 1999, veteran rallycross racer Per Eklund built his Saab 9-3 T16 4x4 for his FIA European Rallycross Championship (ERC) campaign. The Saab 9-3 is powered by a longitudinally-mounted, 2-litre inline-4 engine tuned by famous Saab tuner Trollspeed, fitted with original Saab engine block and cylinder head, and a Garrett turbocharger with 45mm restrictor. This engine is capable of accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in under 2.5 seconds and putting out approximately 550-600 bhp at 6500rpm. It also comes with four-wheel drive with programmable active differentials and a six-speed Prodrive gearbox.

The Saab 9-3 T16 eventually finished 8 out of 9 ERC races in podium with 2 race wins, 4 runner-ups and 2 second runner-ups, winning Per Eklund his first and only ERC Driver's title for Division 1 by beating out another legendary rallycross racer, Kenneth Hansen by only 6 championship points.

“Four wheel drive and over five-hundred horsepower. Sweet stuff! The only car to be able to truly compete with the Citroën.”
Travis Pastrana
