The Ford Mustang GT-R Concept was created to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Ford Mustang, and previewed the upcoming 2005 model. Inspired by the 1970 Boss 302 Trans Am race cars, it utilised a 440bhp 5.0-litre V8, fully adjustable coilover suspension, six-piston Brembo brakes and a full roll cage[1][2].

- Although this vehicle is named in both games it is featured in as Ford Mustang GT, it is visually the same model as the 2004 Mustang GT-R Concept as featured in Codemasters' Race Driver: Grid.
- Despite promotional images for Showdown showing the Mustang as having the Hella Racing livery from DiRT 3, it did not appear in the final game.
