Dirt 3 (stylized as DiRT 3) is the third instalment in the Colin McRae Dirt series and the eighth in the Colin McRae Rally series. However, the "Colin McRae" tag has been completely removed from its iteration (having previously been removed from only American versions of previous games in the series). The game was released in Europe and North America on the 24 May 2011, and two days later in Australia for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The Japanese version was released on 25 August 2011.

Description and gameplay

The "DiRT Tour" career mode sees players competing as a privateer, earning "Reputation" points in various events to gain the interest of sponsors; these provide the player with new vehicles to drive.

Flashbacks return from Colin McRae DiRT 2, which can be used up to five times per race, but cost Reputation points to use. A new "Gymkhana" mode puts players in vehicular obstacle courses, challenging them to perform various tricks to earn points and entertain the crowd.

Also featured are various online party modes, involving events such as smashing wooden targets, spreading a zombie infection, and Capture The Flag. Other new features include a Hardcore mode which limits players to the cockpit view with no driving assists, the appearance of rain and snow, and the ability to upload replay clips directly to YouTube.

Vehcle setup [WIP tab]

Here is a list of vehicle setup possibilities

  • Gear ratio [short 1|2|3|4|5 long] Short gears make the car accelerrate insanely quick. Long gears are ideal for Tailblazer races.
  • Downforce [high 1|2|3|4|5 low] Sucks the car to the ground. High downforce makes the car grip better, but you lose top speed. Low downforce makes the car a bullet, but handles like crap.
  • Suspension [stiff 1|2|3|4|5 soft] Soft suspension is good on bumpy tracks because the car won't bounce around as much. Hard suspension is ideal for flat tracks.
  • Ride height [low 1|2|3|4|5 high] Higher ride height is good for bumpy tracks because the car won't bottom out as much and completely mess up your driving style. Low ride height is good for flat tracks and makes the car handle better.
  • Differential [strong 1|2|3|4|5 loose] This controls how much power is applied to the wheels. A strong differential makes the car a lot more powerful than it should be. Strong differential should be used with short gears to make your ride have inhuman acceleration, and a weak diff should be used with long gears.
  • Brake bias [rear 1|2|3|4|5 front] This has everything to do with drifting. A full front brake bias will make your E-Brake useless. A full rear brake bias will make the car understeer and virtually undrivable on technical tracks.
